Biographical sketch...

Dr. Horvath received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in civil engineering at Columbia University in the City of New
York and his Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering degree at the Polytechnic Institute of New York. He is a licensed
professional engineer with current registration in the State of New York and has been actively and continuously engaged in the
practice of civil engineering with a specialization in geotechnical
and foundation engineering for his entire professional career which
began in 1972.

Dr. Horvath has also been actively engaged in applications-oriented
research going back to his doctoral studies which began in
1974. He is best and internationally known for his seminal work in the area of geofoams, particularly expanded polystyrene
(EPS). His out-of-print 1995 scholarly monograph "
Geofoam Geosynthetic" remains the only English-language book on the
subject. He is also known for his research activities related to soil-structure interaction; integrated site characterization and
foundation analysis; and the use of cylindrical cavity expansion as a third axial-capacity mechanism for deep foundations.

In addition, Dr. Horvath has been involved in delivering engineering
education since 1977. His educational experience spans the
gamut of formal university and college classroom teaching to customized and specialized
continuing-education lectures, seminars,
workshops, and courses for design professionals and others involved in engineered construction.
